Streaming viewership exceeded cable and broadcast combined for the first time last month, report says
Streaming services surpassed both cable and network television in total viewership among people in the U.S. for the first time in May, according to a new report from Nielsen.
Last month, streaming services accounted for 44.8% of all television viewership, their largest share to date. Nielsen found that total viewership for cable and network television accounted for 44.2% of all television viewership.
People paying for cable is still a thing?, I thought it was just for stuff that plays on doctors reception area TV to show ads, I haven’t had cable for like a decade
I only have internet and I pay 118 a month. Big company came by the other day offering double the speeds, 2 streaming services of my choosing, and cable for 108 a month.
So this is why I’ve come back to “cable” after not having it for over a decade. I can’t say I’ll use it, because ads drive me up the fucking wall, but to have double the internet speed, sports, and two streaming services included? I’ll do it.
Literally a decade here. We moved in 2015 and have never had TV service in this house. I’ve even pared back our streaming services significantly. We get Amazon as part of our Prime membership, and a free Peacock subscription with our internet service. I’m grandfathered in to a low-rate for YouTube Premium because I was a Play Music early adopter. The only other ones I pay for are Disney/Hulu and Dropout. If Disney raises their rate again, though, I’m dropping them.
